2022: The UN International Year of Glass
The International Commission on Glass (ICG), along with the Community of Glass Associations (CGA) and ICOM-Glass have been promoting a United Nations International Year of Glass for 2022. The good news is that our application has now been approved at the UN General Council meeting on Tuesday 18th May 2021! You may visit the official website of IYOG 2022 from the link.
The Year will celebrate the essential role glass has and will continue to have in Society. It will underline the technological, scientific and economic importance of this often unseen transparent and enabling material which underpins so many technologies and which can facilitate the development of more just and sustainable societies to meet the challenges of globalization. It is also an important medium for art and its history is integral with that of humankind.
What follows is based on our formal application to the UN and is split into the following sections:
- What glass offers society,
- Planning for an IYOG
- Support received from different institutions
- Support received by country
- Concluding statement
The main documents submitted to the UN can be downloaded from the link and more information can be followed on the official website of IYOG 2022.
Welcome to the age of Glass!
